Prayers and Reflection<\/strong>
We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
Because by your holy Cross you have redeemed the world.
 
Consider, my soul, this first fall of Jesus under His Cross. His flesh was torn by the scourges, His head crowned with thorns, and He had lost a great quantity of blood. He was so weakened that He could scarcely walk, and yet He had to carry this great load upon His shoulders. The soldiers struck Him rudely, and thus He fell several times.

   My beloved Jesus, it is not the weight of the Cross, but of my sins, which has made you suffer so much pain. By the merits of this first fall, deliver me from the misfortune of falling into mortal sin.\n\n\n

I repent with my whole heart of having offended you. Never permit me to separate myself from you again. Grant that I may love you always,
and then do with me what you will.

\nLike a sapling he grew up in front of us,
\nlike a root in arid ground.
\nWithout beauty, without majesty we saw him,
\nno looks to attract our eyes;
\na thing despised and rejected by men,
\na man of sorrows and familiar with suffering,
\na man to make people screen their faces;
\nhe was despised and we took no account of him.

\n\nAnd yet ours were the sufferings he bore,
\nours the sorrows he carried.
\nBut we, we thought of him as someone punished,
\nstruck by God, and brought low.
\nYet he was pierced through for our faults,
\ncrushed for our sins.
\nOn him lies a punishment that brings us peace,
\nand through his wounds we are healed.\n
