of you: in body, mind and spirit.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">_________________________________________<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the New Testament there are many beautiful texts that are read as Canticles or songs, and recited as part of daily prayer and worship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The New Testament Canticles have inspired many Christian songs and hymns down the ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are a selection of the Canticles (Jerusalem Bible texts):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">_________________________________________<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=#000080><strong>From the Gospels:<\/strong><\/font color><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Beatitudes: Matthew 5:3-10<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nHow happy are the poor in spirit;<br>\ntheirs is the kingdom of heaven.<br><br>\nHappy the gentle:<br>\nthey shall have the earth for their heritage.<br><br>\nHappy those who mourn:<br>\nthey shall be comforted.<br><br>\nHappy those who hunger and thirst for what is right:<br>\nthey shall be satisfied.<br><br>\nHappy the merciful:<br>\nthey shall have mercy shown them.<br><br>\nHappy the pure in heart:<br>\nthey shall see God.<br><br>\nHappy the peacemakers:<br>\nthey shall be called sons of God.<br><br>\nHappy those who are persecuted in the cause of right:<br>\ntheirs is the kingdom of heaven.<br><br>\n\n\n\n<p 1:68-79<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>(Recited with Morning Prayer)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\nBlessed be the Lord, the God of Israel<br>\nfor he has visited his people, he has come to their rescue<br><br>\n\nand he has raised up for us a power for salvation<br>\nin the House of his servant David,<br>\neven as he proclaimed,<br>\nby the mouth of his holy prophets from ancient times,<br><br>\n\nthat he would save us from our enemies<br>\nand from the hands of all who hate us.<br>\nThus he shows mercy to our ancestors,<br>\nthus he remembers his holy covenant,<br><br>\n\nthe 2:29-32<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>(now you dismiss \/ let your servant depart)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>(Recited with Night Prayer).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\nNow, Master,<br>\nyou can let your servant<br>\ngo in peace, just as you promised;<br><br>\n\nbecause my eyes have seen the salvation<br>\nwhich you have prepared for all the nations to see,<br>\na light to enlighten the pagans<br>\nand the glory of your people Israel.<br><br>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">_________________________________________<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=\"#000080\"><strong>From the Letters:<\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A Song of Divine Love: 1 Corinthians 13:4-13<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nLove is always patient and kind;<br>\nit is never jealous;<br>\nlove is never boastful or conceited;<br>\nit is never rude or selfish;<br><br>\n\nit does not take offense,<br>\nand is not resentful.<br>\nLove takes no pleasure in other people\u2019s sins<br>\nbut delights in the truth;<br><br>\n\nit is always ready to excuse, to trust,<br>\nto hope, and to endure whatever comes.<br><br>\n\nLove does not come to an end.<br>\nBut if there are gifts of prophecy,<br>\nthe time will come when they must fail;<br>\nor the gift of languages, it will not continue for ever;<br>\nand knowledge-for this, too,<br>\nthe time id=\"humbleryet\"><strong>The Song of Christ\u2019s Glory: Philippians 2:5-11<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nIn your minds you must be the same as Christ Jesus:<br><br>\n\nHis state was divine,<br>\nyet he did not cling<br>\nto his equality with God<br><br>\n\nbut emptied himself<br>\nto assume the condition of a slave,<br>\nand became as men are;<br><br>\n\nand being as all men are,<br>\nhe was humbler yet,<br>\neven to accepting death,<br>\ndeath on a cross.<br><br>\n\nBut God raised him high<br>\nand gave him the name<br>\nwhich is above all other names<br><br>\n\nso that all beings<br>\nin the Father<br>\nwho has made it possible<br>\nfor you to join the saints and with them<br>\nto inherit the light.<br><br>\n\nBecause that is what he has done:<br>\nhe has taken us out of the power of darkness<br>\nand created a place for us<br>\nin the kingdom of the Son that he loves,<br>\nand in him, we gain our freedom, the forgiveness of our sins.<br><br>\n\nHe is the image of the unseen God<br>\nand the first-born of all creation,<br>\nfor in him were created<br>\nall things in heaven and on earth:<br>\neverything visible and everything invisible.<br><br>\n\n(All) things were for you<br>\nand left an example<br>\nfor you to follow the way he took.<br><br>\n\nHe had not done anything wrong,<br>\nand there had been no perjury in his mouth.<br>\nHe was insulted<br>\nand did not retaliate with insults;<br><br>\n\nwhen he was tortured<br>\nhe made no threats<br>\nbut he put his trust in the righteous judge.<br>\n\nHe was bearing our faults<br>\nin his own body on the cross,<br>\nso that we might die to our faults<br>\nand live for holiness;<br>\n\nthrough his wounds you have been healed.<br><br>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">_________________________________________<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><font color=#000080><strong>From the Book of Revelation<\/strong><\/font color><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A Song of Praise: Revelation 4:11; 5:9b, 10, 12<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This Canticle is also known as Glory and Honour<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\nYou are our Lord and our God,<br>\nyou are worthy of glory and honour and power,<br><br>\n\nbecause you made all the universe<br>\nand it was only by your will that everything was made and exists.<br><br>\n\nYou are worthy to take the scroll<br>\nand break the seals of it,<br>\nbecause you were sacrificed, and with your blood<br>\nyou bought men for God<br>\nof every race, language, people and nation<br><br>\n\nand made them a line of kings and priests,<br>\nto serve our God and to rule the world.<br><br>\n\nThe Lamb that was sacrificed<br>\nis worthy to be given power, riches,<br>\nwisdom, strength,<br>\nhonour, glory and blessing.<br><br>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">_________________________________________<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A Song of the Redeemed: Revelation 7:9, 10, 14b-17<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nAfter that I saw a huge number,<br>\nimpossible to count, of people<br>\nfrom every nation,<br>\nrace, tribe and language;<br><br>\n\nthey were standing in front of the throne<br>\nand in front of the Lamb,<br>\ndressed in white robes<br>\nand holding palms in their hands.<br>\nThey shouted aloud,<br><br>\n\n\u201cVictory to our God,<br>\nwho sits on the throne,<br>\nand to the Lamb!\u201d<br><br>\n\nthey now stand in front of God&#8217;s throne<br>\nand serve him day and night in his sanctuary;<br>\nand the One who sits on the throne will<br>\nspread his tent over them.<br><br>\n\nThey will never hunger or thirst again;<br>\nneither the sun nor scorch? wind will ever plague them,<br>\nbecause the Lamb who is at the throne<br>\nwill be their shepherd<br>\nand will lead them to springs of living water;<br>\nand God will wipe away all tears from their eyes.<br><br>\n\n\n\n<p
